The Benefits of Senior Living Communities

One of the best parts of signing up for a senior living community is the lifestyle. Senior living communities, like Copeland Oaks, offer many amenities to encourage active living. Activity is so important to vivacity and productive life. In Dan Buettner's 2008 best-selling book, The Blue Zones, he describes how the people of Okinawa, Japan tend to live longer than most people from every other part of the world because of their active lifestyles and social engagement. Our research and experience has also indicated that older adults who stay active and socially engaged avoid physical and mental decline longer than those who don't.

In one chapter, he profiles a woman who takes walks and participates in a cocktail hour where the women in the community have the opportunity to gossip and enjoy one's company. The remarkable thing is the woman was over one hundred years old and acted like someone thirty years younger. The entry is a testament to how activity and community can benefit someone to live a longer, more productive life.

Copeland Oaks feature many amenities that will help you stay active and engaged. We have an indoor pool, recreation center, and onsite wellness center to encourage exercise and socializing. Moreover, we have set up an array of exercise and wellness programs that will keep you fit and happy throughout your days. Our Director of Wellness is dedicated to providing our residents with the tools and means to feel good and independent.

Our residents stay healthy and feel better because of our dedication to wellness. Your body is meant to move around and think. If you don't, it will slowly shut down. Senior living communities, like Copeland Oaks, ensure that you will get the most out of your body and mind to live full and productive years. Learn about our wellness programs and features today!

Talking To Your Loved Ones About a CCRC

A CCRC, or Continuing Care Retirement Community, is one of the many options you and your loved ones have as they get older. What separates a Continuing Care Retirement Community from other retirement options is the access to health care, housing and personal services all in one location for convenience and safety. Copeland Oaks is a CCRC dedicated to well-being and personal care. If you're considering alternative options for your loved ones in their advanced years, talk to them about choosing a Continuing Care Retirement Community.

Copeland Oaks welcomes residents 55 and over. If you are approaching this age yourself, we encourage you to make the move as soon as you feel comfortable. The goal of a CCRC is to be properly equipped for each stage of the aging process. A major contributing factor to this success is becoming a resident while you're still young and active. Taking advantage of amenities like gyms and health clinics while still in optimal health will keep you fit as you age. Establishing good, healthy habits now will make life that much more enjoyable later.

Another important function of many CCRCs, including Copeland Oaks, is the offering of assisted living services. Tying into the goal of providing lifelong care, there will come a time where you or your loved one may need help doing some of your day to day tasks. Already being located in a community that you're familiar with when you begin to need these services will make it easier to adjust.

Planning a lifetime of care after age 55 can be daunting, but you can carry on enjoying life in a place you can trust.

What is Assisted Living?

It's time we talked to everyone about assisted living.  We realize that not everyone fully understands what it means, so we're going to do our best to explain it to those of you who have questions in regards to its nature.

It encompasses of a facilities and locations, which might be adding to some of the confusion.  Some buildings are high-rises, but the facilities can also be located in residential neighborhood.  There can be anywhere from a handful of residents, all the way up to several hundred.  Deciding on what sort of location is best for you or your parents is a personal decision, but a member of our team would be happy to show you around Copeland and explain in detail what we're all about here.

Assisted living is basically an option that combines housing, support services and health care all in one package.  Although it has traditionally only been offered to seniors, it has recently become an option for slightly younger residents who suffer from an early onset of conditions that normally inflict seniors.  At Copeland, though, we specialize in offering the service for seniors.  The point is, the service is for people who can't help themselves and whose families can no longer take care of them on their own.

We provide our assisted living residents with access to all of the common grounds.  Three meals are provided each day, as well as laundry service, medication administration, and assistance with bathing, dressing and toileting as needed.  Take your time and do your research; we're here to answer your questions.  When you're ready, we will be happy to provide qualified assistance.

The Importance of Staying Active in Senior Living Communities

What makes Copeland Oaks one of the most attractive senior living communities to our residents and prospective residents is our wide variety of available activities. No matter what your age is, your happiness is strongly tied to your mental and physical fitness. At Copeland Oaks we understand how important it is to be able to keep participating in the things that interest you when you decide to live somewhere new.

The activities we offer will keep you feeling strong and mentally sharp. If exercise isn't of much interest to you, we offer many educational opportunities that other senior living communities don't.  Our residents enjoy going to concerts, sporting events and theater productions. You can even audit classes from the nearby University of Mount Union. Our special partnerships with organizations in the area give our residents access to all kinds of cultural activities.

If you enjoy being creative, we offer a woodworking shop and art studios. No matter what interests you most, Copeland Oaks has something for everyone.
